As the performance of the new version of Cantonese opera work “The Fairy Tale of the White Snake” ended at Suzhou Culture and Arts Centre in SIP on the night of June 28, the “Staging Plan - The First Chinese Opera Classic Repertoire Exhibition Season”, which was launched in Suzhou in April, wrapped up.
Over the past two months, eight troupes from around the country staged 13 traditional Chinese opera shows that are canonized works preserved in their repertoire. Statistics show that these shows achieved an average attendance rate of 77%, with box office revenue exceeding RMB3.3 million, demonstrating the enduring appeal of classic Chinese opera works to contemporary audiences.
In addition to the performances, an exhibition of scripts, music scores and other documents related to classic Chinese operas was held and opera-based films were screened among other activities under the plan to spread Chinese opera culture in diverse ways.
